There are also special events like summer camps, student retreats and the family summit that will help children and parents grow in their relationships with each other and God.

21 Days

Prayer Celebration on Monday!

Our "21 Days" are done! We prayed. We fasted. We spent quality time with God these past three weeks. Now it's time to ponder: What did God reveal? Join us Monday, January 29, at 6 p.m. in the Sanctuary (Avon Campus) for an all-church Prayer Celebration! We will share stories and rejoice together!

A Note from Pastor Jay

As we begin this new year, what challenges and opportunities lay before you, before your family, before us as a church? Let’s pray about those things so that we, like Jesus, can then move confidently into this year knowing that “ ... he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:6). So, I’m calling all of Valley (Avon, Bristol, and Simsbury) to 21 Days Uniting in Prayer, January 7-27.

What will that look like? How can we unite in this all-church prayer experience? That’s what the prayer book is about. (You can pick up a copy beginning January 6-7 at all locations, or download the PDF here.) This is a guide for your prayer time, including a daily scripture reading, a daily prayer focus, and a place to journal your experience. Most of the extended times of prayer in the Bible included fasting. Please read the section on fasting carefully and then decide whether one of the forms of fasting is right for you.

Each campus will have unique methods of customizing this experience, including: prayer gatherings, digital prayer walls, and specific campus prayer goals. I’m convinced that by uniting together in prayer for these 21 days, we will see God move in remarkable ways.

Also, Valley is part of a worldwide movement of churches called Converge. Hundreds of Converge churches are also participating in this time of prayer. On January 29 at 6 p.m., we will have a corporate Prayer Celebration at Valley Avon, where we’ll worship and praise God for what we’ve seen Him do.

So, join me for 21 Days Uniting in Prayer! I’m convinced that God will reveal Himself, His plan, and His love to you in new and deeper ways as we together “lift up holy hands” in prayer (1 Timothy 2:8).

21 Days FAQ

Where can I get a prayer book?

Books are still available at the Reception Desk by the main entrance of the Avon Campus. Come by between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays to get your copy. You can also download a PDF of the book by clicking here.

No, but please consider that there are different ways to fast (beyond food). If you decide to do a food fast, please consult your doctor. See pages 9-11 in the Prayer Book for instructions and tips about fasting, which is more about replacing than abstaining!

Join in whenever you'd like! If you miss the start, make it 14 days, or 10 days, or whatever fits. The point is to pray repeatedly and intentionally.

Yes, plenty! See the Key Events box at right for full details. Each location will also have special times or places of corporate prayer. Then join us Monday, January 29, to share what God has revealed to you, and hear from others about their experiences as well. This special all-church gathering will be at 6 p.m. in the Sanctuary at the Avon Campus.
