Saturday, March 10, 2012 – 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
What is Community Service Day?
Community Service Day will build bridges into our community while reflecting Valley’s World Outreach theme for 2011-2012, Gospel Words…Gospel Works. We will serve town, civic and non-profit organizations. After this day, you may decide to serve on a regular basis though there is no obligation to do so. The same is true for weekend Communities, small groups and families.
CSD is a great opportunity to invite an unchurched friend. It will be a safe place in which to cultivate friendship. It will "walk" the "talk" of Christianity. In December, 2011 almost 450 people from Valley served at 16 different sites. What needs to be done and how much time is involved?
Projects include cleaning, landscaping, organizing, painting, and carpentry. Work time: arrive at site by 9 a.m. and leave site at 1 p.m. Lunch should be eaten after leaving the site.Who are we serving?
Some organizations are familiar to Valley like Hartford City Mission, South Park Inn, the town of Avon and Salvation Army. Others are connected to Valley attendees such as Gifts of Love and Marshall House (Chris and Amy Schaedler, Valley coordinators for FoodCare).
Beginning January 28, registration desks will be open in the Welcome Center and online registration will also be available. Click here to see the list of participating organizations along with the skills and number of people needed and to register. What is expected of people who serve?
1. Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by parents or they must have a special release form.
2. Participants must register either online or at the registration desk and sign a liability release form.
3. Some tools and supplies may need to be brought to the site. Anything of significance will be provided by the site leader or the host organization.
4. Work with a joyful spirit. Be prepared to tell people why you are serving.
5. Bring your own snacks or “coffee break” supplies. Leaving the site is not desirable.
