Exercise your physical and spiritual muscles by joining the Valley Runners for a group run, a track workout, strength training or a social event. Stop by at one of our events for faith-building, fellowship and fitness! Bring a friend - all are welcome! Exercise your physical and spiritual muscles with the Valley Runners, a group for runners of all levels. Regular runs will be offered to accommodate different paces and fitness goals.
Group Runs
Runners of all paces and abilities are welcome to these runs, generally held on Saturday mornings. The locations are chosen with flexibility in mind, to accommodate various distance runs. We chat, warm up and start together, grouping up as appropriate. Please contact Alan Fosberry at 860.751.2080 or valleyrunners@comcast.net by Thursday if you want to join the group run that weekend. You will have fun! We welcome suggestions for times and locations. It is always fun to run new routes.
Track Workouts
Wednesday track workouts include group warm-ups followd, optionally, by coached speed work on the track that is geared toward your running abilities and goals. Rebecca can work with you personally if you are interested in improving a particular aspect of your running or are working toward a specific goal. The rubberized track is a great surface to run or walk on, and is a nice opportunity to be around other enthusiastic runners and walkers. The sessions are held on the Avon High School track from November through February and on the Farmington High School track from March through October. Please check the calendar for details.
Strength Training
These Monday evening sessions teach running-specific exercises to improve your running efficiency. The emphasis is on core strength, exercises that will improve your running biomechanics and strength, and plyometric drills. Together, we do dynamic warm-up exercises that will improve elasticity for a more injury-free and powerful run. Rebecca leads these very effective workouts that you can join at any point. If you are interested in running more easily and being more injury-resilient, come try one of these!
Meetings
The meetings include social time and presentations on running and on spiritual topics. Topics such as nutrition, goal-setting, avoiding injury and mental strategies were a few of the topics covered last year.
Kids' Fun Runs
These events for 4- to 12-year olds (divided into age groups) include fun warm-up exercises, drills and races. The kids wear official running bibs while participating in the activities, including relays and an optional timed mile. These runs are non-competitive, with the emphasis on having fun while acquiring endurance and better running skills. parents must stay for the entire event with a participating child. Please pre-register your child by emailing Rebecca with your child's name and age.
