When we think of how to communicate the message of the Gospel, we think of words. This can happen when we participate in a conversation, hear a talk or a sermon or read the Bible. When we hear or read the Good News of Jesus Christ, we learn what Jesus Christ has done for us and understand the eternal relationship with God that is available to everyone.

However, in a world of seven billion where two-thirds of the people are without a Christian worldview, let alone the fact that three billion people are functionally illiterate, something more than words is needed. We can minister through works: Gospel works; and in this way Christians authenticate of love of Jesus Christ. We want to show God’s love by addressing needs like hunger, exploitation, homelessness and health care. These challenges exist in Hartford, Haiti and throughout the world. Jesus Himself ministered to the marginalized by word and works. Gospel works demonstrate that God’s concern for the world is real.

Gospel works are essential and in this sense the Gospel is works. At Valley, we want to communicate the Gospel through Words AND Works. Look for upcoming opportunities to get involved.

MORE ABOUT WORLD OUTREACH WEEK 2012:

How is Valley World Outreach funded?
World Outreach is funded through Faith Promise. This is an agreement you make with God to give financially to the World Outreach budget. It is above and beyond what you regularly give to the church. All gifts to World Outreach must be so designated. Faith Promise weekend is March 10-11. Plan to participate!

How do you connect with Valley missionaries?
Start by being a prayer partner with one missionary. Each person at Valley is asked to pray for and build a relationship with one missionary. Send them emails. See them when they visit Valley every few years. Visit where they serve. Prayer partnerships can be made at the end of the Fellowship Hall Tour or during Faith Promise weekend March 10-11.

How can I find out more about Gospel Works...Gospel Words?
Take a Fellowship Hall Tour. The short stories of God at work are amazing! Communities can schedule 20 minute tours during class time. Anyone can take the tour after a worship service.

What is the most important part of World Outreach Week?
Prayer is the most important part of WOW. Plan on attending a Prayer & Breakfast (March 5-9) from 7:15 - 8 a.m. in Room 209 (Hearth Room). Hear from a different Valley missionary each day.
No reservation required. Children accompanied by parents are welcome. Voluntary donation.

Is it possible that God wants me to be a missionary?
Of course it is! Most years, someone from Valley goes into missions on a long-term basis, and it’s never been a pastor! Hear more at the “What is God’s Plan for My Future” lunch on Sunday, March 4 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 206. No reservations required. Voluntary donation for food.
